Day 1: Explore the Bund and French Concession
Welcome to Shanghai, a vibrant and bustling metropolis renowned for its fascinating blend of traditional Chinese culture and modernity! On Day 1 of your two-day adventure, start your morning by heading to the most iconic landmark of Shanghai, the Bund. This scenic promenade along the Huangpu River offers breath-taking views of the city skyline and the famous Oriental Pearl Tower, a popular tourist attraction in Shanghai.
After admiring the panoramic view of the city, take a stroll around the nearby Nanjing Road, a pedestrian shopping street that stretches for miles. Here, you’ll find an array of shops selling everything from high-end luxury brands to inexpensive souvenirs.
Next, head to Xintiandi, a chic and trendy pedestrian street lined with stylized Shikumen buildings that have been transformed into cafes, bars, and restaurants. This charming neighborhood is also home to the former residence of China's first premier, Zhou Enlai, which has been restored and converted into a museum.
In the afternoon, take a taxi to the French Concession, a former French colonial district that is now a fashionable and trendy area of Shanghai. Here, stroll around the tree-lined streets of the beautiful neighborhood and check out some of the city's hippest bars, cafes, and restaurants.
Don't miss out on exploring Tianzifang, a labyrinth of narrow alleys and Shikumen residences that have been converted into galleries, boutiques, and cafes. The area is a great place to pick up unique handicrafts and souvenirs.
Day 2: Shanghai Tower and Yuyuan Garden
Start your second day in Shanghai by visiting the Shanghai Tower, the world's second-tallest building and China's tallest. From the 118th floor observation deck, you'll enjoy stunning views of the city below, as well as the famous Oriental Pearl Tower and the Huangpu River.
Afterward, head to Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden located in the heart of Shanghai's Old City. The garden was built in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty and provides a tranquil oasis amid the bustling city.
Once you've finished exploring the garden, head to nearby Chenghuangmiao (City God Temple), a Taoist temple dating back to the 15th century. Here, visitors can admire the picturesque Chinese architecture and soak up the temple's spiritual atmosphere.
Finally, cap off your trip by visiting the famous Shanghai World Financial Center, a towering skyscraper in the Lujiazui financial district. From the observation deck on the 100th floor, you'll get an incredible bird's-eye view of Shanghai and its iconic landmarks.
With so much to see and do in Shanghai, two days barely scratches the surface of all the city has to offer. But with this itinerary, you'll have explored some of the city's most iconic landmarks and experienced its unique blend of old and new.
